Development of power system dynamic monitoring unit based on GPS

? A new power system dynamic monitoring unit and its experimental results in the field test have been introduced. The unit measures the AC quantity in phasor form relative to a uniform reference phasor created on the basis of accurate time provided by GPS(global positioning system). The unit can be configured flexibly to meet different demands on the power system monitoring. A network interface makes it possible to form a global network synchronized monitoring system. A 3 machine and 9 bus system has been constructed in the lab to test the device. The recorded dynamics of voltages, frequencies and phase angles, including one full process of unsynchronizing, oscillation, and re synchronizing are given and analyzed. 
