Recent Progresses in the Research on the Interaction between Asian Monsoon and ENSO Cycle

In this paper, the achievements of the research on the interaction between monsoon and ENSO cycle in the implementing CLIVAR Programme in China for recent six years are synthesized and reviewed. Especially, the progresses in the research on the impacts of ENSO cycle on the precipitation in East Asia and China, water vapor transfer, monsoon circulation, the West Pacific subtropical high and the dynamical effect of Asian monsoon on ENSO cycle and the physical mechanism of ENSO cycle, and the achievements of the study on the numerical simulation and predictability of the interaction between monsoon and ENSO. Besides, some problems to be studied further in this aspect are also pointed out in this paper.
