Some New Aspects in Understanding of ENSO Cycle

In recent years, Chinese scientists found some new mechanisms of the ENSO cycle by data diagnoses, theoretical analysis and numerical experiments. The findings include the origin of the El Nino and the La Nina, the propagation of the warm or cold water associated with the ENSO cycle, dynamical roles of the zonal wind stress over tropical western Pacific and of the meridional wind stress over the tropical eastern Pacific, etc. In this paper, a review is given to introduce some aspects of these new findings achieved by Chinese scientists.
