TRANSIENT FRACTURE OF THE ALUMINUM PLATE IN TENSION AND IRRADIATED BY CW CO_2LASE一BEAM

AbstractThe transient fracture of the aluminum plate in tension and irradiated by CW CO_2 laser beamis studied experimentally in this paper and shown Fig.1.A CW CO_2 laser beam of Φ50mm in diameter and of power 8kW irradiated the L_2 Al platewith size 100mm×50mm and 0.2mm thick.The diagnostic items are:high 一speed photography,thermovision system, optical一electronicmonitor,temperature filament gauge,strain gauge and scanning electron microscope(SEM). It is demonstrated from this research that 1. The macro physical fracture or micro damage caused by transient temperature elevationmav evolve into structure fracture due to macro crack initially induced by the tension loadirig asshown in Fig.2.2.The finite element calculations show that the large deformation and failure of structure isdue to the transient thermal softening of material and corresponding redistribution of macroloading and deformation in the structure.3.More pretension in the aluminum plate,less incident laser energy for the structure frac-ture,and the demarcddtion is shown in Fig.3.
