Thermodynamic analysis and experiment research of MgO-CaO silicothermic reduction reaction by using mechanically activated method

In order to solve the problem of large consumption of resource, long period of reduction and serious environment pollution in the magnesium extraction process, the thermodynamic analysis and calculation were firstly carried out for the reduction reaction between MgO-CaO and Si powder after the mechanical activation, then the mechanical activation method was used to enhance the silicothermic reduction reaction between MgO-CaO and Si powder at 1223 K and normal pressure. The thermodynamic calculation results demonstrate that the silicon calcium oxide is mostly likely in the form of Ca_2SiO_4 and Ca_3SiO_5, and the experiment results show that the mechanical activation has a good reinforcement effect on the MgO silicothermic reduction reaction, and magnesium was successfully prepared under the experiment condition. Moreover, the reaction mechanism of the reduction reaction was discussed based on analysis of the reduzate using XRD, SEM and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer analysis method.
