Feasibility study of using carbon electrode in 12MVA titanium slag electric furnace

The price of graphite electrodes has remained high since 2016, which has led to significantly-increased smelting cost of titanium slag and poor profitability of enterprises. Based on the comprehensive characteristics comparison of carbon electrode, graphite electrode and selfbaked electrode, and combined with the main power supply characteristics of titanium slag smelting, this paper holds the idea that under the same power supply system, the carbon electrode of the same size can not fully meet the requirements of titanium slag safe production.However, the equitment and process plans complying with the carbon electrode characteristics can be prepared by reducing the smelting load and increasing electrode diameter, thus cutting down the production cost of titanium slag.
