Li Na (Nursing Faculty of Shandong University of TCM,Jinan Shandong 250355,China)
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the external application with Aloe vera in the treatment of phlebitis. Methods: By researching the literatures(published up to August 2010) concerning the randomized controlled trials and clinical controlled trials in the treatment of phlebitis with Aloe vera and by wet dressings with Magnesium sulfate from Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals(VIP) and Wanfang Database, the quality evaluation criteria of Cochrane systematic review methods and RevMan 4.2 analysis software were adopted to make the analysis of included study. Results: 7 documents were included in the study(712 cases),including 369 cases treated with Aloe vera and 343 cases with Magnesium sulfate. The combined relative risk(RR) value and 95% confidence interval(CI) was 1.24(1.17,1.32);the total effects of test was Z=6.80(P0.000 01).Conclusion: The effect of external application with Aloe vera was better than that of wet dressings with Magnesium sulfate in the treatment of phlebitis, which can be used as the clinical evidence. But the results need to be further validated by a large sample and the strictly designed randomized controlled trials in the future.
