Study of Application of Seismic Mitigation and Isolation Techniques to Multi-Span Continuous Girder Bridges

The approach bridges of most major bridges are often designed as multi-span continuous girder bridge structures.The type of the structures is normally rigid and is therefore vulnerable to earthquake attack.However,for the approach bridges of Sutong Bridge,the seismic problems thereof are fairly well resolved with the application of seismic mitigation and isolation techniques developed for the Bridge.In this paper,by way of example of a unit of the continuous girder of the approach bridges,the development process of the seismic mitigation and isolation techniques is presented.On the basis of all-round evaluation of seismic performance of the design used with common steel bearings,the effect of various practical seismic mitigation and isolation devices is compared and analyzed, and the final solutions to the seismic problems are accordingly recommended.
