Design of Pylons of Edong Changjiang River Highway Bridge

The main bridge of Edong Changjiang River Highway Bridge is a semi-floating system hybrid girder cable-stayed bridge with double pylons and with a main span 926 m.The pylons of the Bridge are designed as the "phoenix′s plume" reinforced concrete structures made up of the lower legs,lower cross beams,middle legs,middle and upper leg connections and upper legs with the grade of the concrete used for the pylons being C50.The bridge comprehensive program MIDAS 2006 and the program Doctor Bridge V3.0 are used to calculate the pylons in accordance with the three-dimensional frame structures in the free standing stage,maximum single cantilever construction stage and operation stage of the Bridge and the local simulation analysis of the lower legs(lower cross beams are included) and the middle and upper leg connections is made as well.The results of the analysis show that the stress,strength and rigidity of the pylons can meet the requirements in the specifications.The construction of the pylons is carried out respectively in the stages of the lower legs,lower cross beams,middle legs,upper legs and pylon tops and the key points of the construction of the pylons are presented.
