Construction Techniques for Deepwater Pile Caps of Pylon Piers of Lushan Bridge in Fuyang

The main bridge of the Lushan Bridge in Fuyang is a double-pylon and single-cable-plane prestressed concrete cable-stayed bridge with span arrangement(118+256+118) m.The pile caps for the pylon piers of the bridge are circular in shape,22 m in diameter,5.5 m in depth,15 m under the designed water level from the bottom of the caps and were constructed by the circular double-wall steel boxed cofferdams.Inside each cofferdam,the internal bracings were not provided and the cofferdam concurrently served as the water retaining structure and formwork.The cofferdam was manufactured vertically in tiers and circularly in segments in shop,delivered by trucks to the pier site where they were assembled together.The first tier cofferdam was firstly integrally lowered to the river by jacks,floated in the river and then the successive tiers of the cofferdam were symmetrically installed.The cofferdam was accurately positioned by the positioning piles and was evenly sunk to its designed elevation by dredging by the aid of the long boom excavator.For the construction of the base sealing tremie concrete of the cofferdam,the concrete was cast one time by tremie ducts,not to be done in partition bulk by partition bulk.In regard of the massive concrete for the pile caps,the relevant control measures of the concrete mix proportioning optimization,conveying ways,casting sequence,temperature monitoring and control and curing were taken and the construction quality of the concrete was hence ensured.
