Expressions of p21 and PCNA in the development of human embryogenic esophageal epithelium tissue

OBJECTIVE:To characterize the expressions of PCNA and p21 in the development of human embryogenic esophageal epithelium and their relationship with cell proliferation from the subjects in high incidence areas for esophageal cancer.METHODS:Immunohistochemical avdin-biotin peroxidase complex(ABC)metheds were used to detect the expressions of PCNA and tumor suppressor gene p21 in embryogenic esophagus epithelium.RESULTS:Of the 26 embryogenic esophageal epithelial specimen from the high incidence area for esophageal cancer,the positive immunostainity rate for p21 was 42%(11/26).There were significant differences(P0.05)in p21 positive rate between early months embryogenic of esophageal epithelium and late stage months.The similar results were observed for PCNA immunostainity in the early and late months of embryogenic esophageal epithelium,P0.05.The positive immunostainity cell number for PCNA was(450±156)/mm2.The positive immunostainity cell number in early months was higher than that in the late months,P0.05.CONCLUSION:The expressions of PCNA and p21 may reflect the active proliferative status of embryogenic esophageal epithelium in high incidence areas for esophageal cancer.
