Expressions and clinical significance of VEGF and HIF-1α in invasive cervical carcinoma

LI XiaDepartment of Carcinoma, the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai College,Xining 810001,P.R.China
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the expressions and clinical significance of VEGF and HIF-1α protein in invasive cervical carcinoma. METHODS: The expressions of VEGF and HIF-1α protein in 42 cases of invasive squamous cell cervical carcinoma(SICC),12 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoclassic(CIN) and 10 cases of normal cervical tissue were detected by the immunohistochemitry SABC method.RESULTS: The positive rates of VEGF increased significantly in the order of NCE,CIN and CSCC,P0.05.No expression of HIF-1α in NEC was found, but the expression of HIF-1α was higher significantly in CSCC than that in CIN,P0.05.There was no relationship between expression of HIF-1α in CSCC and age, tumor size, histopathological grading, pelvic lymphonode metastasis and clinical staging,P0.05.There was s relationship between the expression of VEGF in CSCC and pelvic lymphonode metastasis,P0.05,but no relationship between the expression of VEGF and age, tumor size, histopathological grading and clinical staging,P0.05.Statistical analysis showed that there were significant correlations between the positive rates of HIF-1α and VEGF,P0.05.CONCLUSIONS: Detection of VEGF and HIF-1α may be valuable to further understand the biological behavior of cervical carcinoma and estimate its prognosis.
