Zu Jin-shang Liu Hui-lan (Department of Meteorology,Nanjing University)  
By using meteorological data of 105 aerological stations during the period of 1960 - 1969, we calculated the average monthly water vapour content over the mainland of China. The formula of water vapour content in air column is expressed by W =1/g∫ppzqdp (mm) where q is specific humidity, g is the gravity accelerat ion, and p is pressure. The average monthly patterns of water vapour content over the mainland of China from October through April show a slight change. But a noticeable increase of moisture is observed over the Changjiang, the Huaihe river and the coast of the Eastern China from May through July. July is the month with the maximum value of water vapour, and January (or Feb) is the month with the minimum. Exceptions are those stations in the southern coast of China with maxima in June. A rapid decrease of moisture appeared over the South of Northeast China, the Changjiang and the Huaihe river from August through October. Obviouly, these features of seasonal variation of water vapour are closely related with atmospheric circulation in the lower parts of troposphere over East Asia.
