CLASSIFIED Z-I RELATIONSHIP AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE MEASUREMENT OF RAINFALL BY WEATHER RADAR OVER THE HUAIHE RIVER BASIN

Using the type of 713 weather radar and its digitized extreme, we test the Huai-he river basin up the Zheng-yang-guan for measuring rainfall amount. By means of optimization method,we classified DBZ according to its value and obtained the sequence of Z - I relation. Then,rainfall estimated by radar data is inverted from the sequence of Z-I relation. Results of the test show that within the distance from 50 to loo km from the radar the accuracy of rainfall measurement by radar is better in the total test area. On an average,relative error of hourly precipitation estimated by radar data amounts to 46%, relative error of process precipitation equates 30%,compared with the measurement value by the raingauge. The measuring rainfall by the means of radar may be a supplement for the network of the routine rainfall station,it can give a variety of rainfall information quasi-real time.
