POLARIZATION LIDAR OBSERVATIONS OF CLOUDS IN DIFFERENT PRECIPITATION BEFORE THEIR APPEARANCE

By using the micro pulse polarization lidar (MPL-TP) to measure depolarization ratio of clouds in three different precipitations before their appearance,the vertical cross-section of Doppler radar at the same time is compared.The primary observational results show that MPL-TP has higher reliability to measure depolarization ratio of clouds.The peak depolarization ratio descends from high-level gradually a- long with precipitation time approaching in three processes.The depolarization ratio more than 0.2 usually appears above 5 km.It varies from 0.1 to 0.15 at the levels of 2~6 km and it is less than 0.1 below 2 km, and this pattern does not have obvious change all the time.
