THE BIOMARKER COMPOUNDS OF CORES FROM THE SOUTH CHINA SEA AND THE OKINAWA TROUGH

The chemical composition of organic matter in cores from the South China Sea and the Okinawa Trough were studied. The biomarker compounds include n-aldane, sterane and terpane, they obviously differ in terms of the chemical composition as reflected by their geochemical parameters :the CPI value, content of C17 and C18 compounds, the ratio between light hydrocarbons and heavy hydrocarbons, the conversion of configuration and the maturity.The distribution of biomarker compounds with different carbon numbers is influenced by the characteristics of the original organic matter and by diagenetic transformations of sedimentary environments. The Okinawa Trough sediments are polygenic, having a terrigenous, a biogenic and a volcanic detrital component, they have the dominance of C17 and C18 alkanes, the higher content of organic carbon. The higher maturity of the sedimentary organic matter from the Okinawa Trough is demonstrated by the fact that; The ratio of 17α(H)-22, 29, 30-trisnorhopane to 18α(H)-22, 29, 30-trisnorneohopane; The proportion ofβα type of C29 and C30 compounds.
