Qi Yiquan;; Shi Ping (South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangzhou 510301)  
Based on two years Geosat altimetric data between 1987 and 1988, themonthly distributions of the sea surface wind speed and significant wave height in theSouth China Sea are given, and the characteristics of wind and wave along thenortheast-southwest axis in the area are also analysed. The results show that they arebasically consistent with that from Ship Visit Report.
