Effects of Extractable Organic Fraction of PM_(2.5) on the Expression of IL-8、IL-1β in BEAS-2B Cells

Objective To analyze the level of particulate matter PM2.5 in Guangzhou,and the effect of the extractable organic matter (EOM) from PM2.5 on BEAS-2B cells. Methods PM2.5 was obtained using a MiniVol Portable Air Sampler. BEAS-2B cells were treated with EOM,and the levels of IL-8 and IL-1β were determined by ELISA. Results The mean daily level of PM2.5 measured near the highway was in the range of 0.057~0.194 mg/m3. The level was 0.88 to 2.98 folds higher than the standard. In vitro study showed that EOM of PM2.5 increased the expression of IL-8 and IL-1β in BEAS-2B. Conclusion The level of PM2.5 in the area near highway is high. PM2.5 may stimulate the airway inflammation through the induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-8 and IL-1β.
