Evaluation of Synthetic Characteristics of Stylosnathes guiansnsis with High Yield and Anthracnose Resistance

A comparative experiment was made in 1998 to 2001 for 14 introduced accessions of Stylosanthes guianensis with 2 released varieties as control. Four years of the experiment showed that Stylosanthes guianensis accessions GC1480 (IRRI), GC1463 (IRRI) and GC1517(IRRI) had the highest dry matter yield (DM) with their DM being 11 377.5 kg/ (hm2·a), 9 360.2 kg/ (hm2·a) and 296.7 kg/ (hm2·a) respectively, 26.49 %, 4.06 % and 3.35 % higher than that of the control S. guianensis c.v Reyan 2, and 72.24 %, 41.70 %, 40.74 % higher than that of S. guianensis cv. Reyan 5 respectively. Accessions GC1480 (IRRI), GC1463 (IRRI) and GC1517 (IRRI) also had higher DM yield during the dry season, showing higher drought tolerance. Their survival rates were 77.50 %, 50.00 %, 49.17 % respectively under regular cutting and had higher cold tolerance. They also had significantly higher anthracnose resistance than that of S. guianensis cv. Reyan 5. Synthetic evaluation using grey relation analysis of 9 forage characters showed that S. guianensis accessions GC1480 (IRRI), GC1463 (IRRI) and GC1517 (IRRI) were better than that of S. guianensis cvs. Reyan 2 and Reyan 5.
