Effect of ~(60)Coγ-ray Irradiation on Growth Characteristics of Chamaecrista

The seeds of 5 accessions of Chamaecrista were irradiated by 60Coγ-ray (radiation dosage: 300 Gy, radiation rate: 4.6875 Gy/min). The M1 seeds were collected from the potted plants, and then the M2 were tested and observed. The results showed that the differences of the germination rate, stem length, leaf width of the 5 varieties of Chamaecrista were not significant. However, the height of Chamaecrista No. 34721 and the stem diameter of No. 2219 increased significantly. The branch number of Chamaecrista No. 86134 increased significantly (P0.01) while that of No. 92985 decreased significantly (P0.01). The leaf number and the dry weight of the plants above the soil of No. 86134 and the leaf-length of No. 2219 increased significantly. There were no significant differences in other varieties. The nutrition determination results showed that K content of No. 2219 decreased significantly, and that there were no significant differences in N, P and K contents in the other 4 varieties. Not only the total amino acid content of No. 2219 decreased significantly, but also the 17 amino acids decreased in various degrees. Not only the total amino acid content of No. 86134 increased significantly, but also the 17 amino acids increased to various extents. There were no significant differences in the other 3 varieties. The zymograms of esterase isozyme of the irradiated accessions No. 34721, 86134 and 92985 were significantly different from those of the CKs. Growth observations showed that the M2 plants of all the varieties under observation changed the stages of floral bud shooting, early flower, full flower, initial pod, full pod and mature pod, and turned to be early or late varieties.
