Biological Activities of Peel Extract of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) and Its Chemical Constituents

The ethyl acetate extract distilled from ethanol crude extract of the peel of mango(Mangifera indica L.) was assayed for its antifungal activities. The results showed that the extract had strong antifungal activities against pathogenic fungi such as Rhizoctonia solani Khn,Rhizoctonia cerealis vander Hoven,et al. The extract was isolated primarily with the method of column chromatography combined with detecting of its antifungal activity. The results showed that the most suitable chromatographic system for separation of the antifungal compounds from the extract was n-Hexane: ethyl acetate: methanol at a volume ratio of 60∶40∶20. Chemical qualitative analysis showed that the chemical constituents in parts 11-13 which had the best antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani mainly consisted of flavones,phenolic acids and organic acids,but the exact active substances need further isolation,purification and identification.
