Effect of Laser Irradiation of Various Powers on Rat's Mast Cells in Mesentery Transparent Fenestra

54 male healthy rats were allocated randomly to 6 groups, i.e., the 5mW、20mW、30mW and 40mW laser irradiation groups, the trussing up control group and the normal control group. During the experiment, all rats were bound on the table except the normal control group. Laser irradiations were given to Zusanli point for ten minutes per day, but not for the controls. On the sixth day all rats were killed uuder anaesthesia with ether. Pieces of jejunal and ileal mesentery were cut off and spread on a sheet of glass, fixed and dyed. The mast cells in the transparent fenestra of mesentery were observed under light microscope. The results showed that the numbers and the degranulation rates of mast cell were increased in 5mW, 20mW and 30mW laser irradiation groups, the change in the jejunal mesentery being more prominent than that in the ileum. But an inhibition effect was found in the 40mW laser irradiation group. It is considered that 5mW and 20mW are the optimal powers for laser irradiation in acupuncture.
