Effects of Lishi Xiaochuan I on Cyclic Nucleotide in Asthmatic Children and Ultrastructure of Pulmonary Capillary Wall in Asthmatic Guinea Pigs

ive] To explore the mechanism of Lishi Xiaochuan I for asthma in children. [Meth ods] Seventy children suffering asthma were randomly allocated to Lishi Xiaochuan I group (Group A, n = 47) and aminophylline group (Group B), and ten healthy children served as the control (Group C). Radioimmunoassay was used to examine the levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) before and after treatment. Meanwhile, effect of Lishi Xiaochuan I on pulmonary ultrastructure of asthmatic guinea pigs was observed by transmission electron microscope. [Results] cAMP level was increased and cGMP level decreased, and the ratio of cAMP/cGMP increased after treatment in Group A and Group B as compared with those before treatment ( P 0.01) . The exper imental results showed that the difference of cAMP/cGMP ratio between high-dose Lishi Xiaochuan I group and aminophylline group was significant ( P 0.01) , and the thickness of pulmonary capillary wall in asthmatic guinea pigs was decreased. No collagenous fibers were found. [Conclusion] Lishi Xiaochuan I can increase the ratio of cAMP/cGMP in asthmatic children and asthmatic guinea pigs and reduce the inflammatory reaction in lung tissues of asthmatic guinea pigs.
