Determination of Activation Energy and Surface Energy for Diamond Growth in Graphite-Ni_(70)Mn_(25)Co_5 System

Nucleation rate and growth rate of diamond under high pressure and high temperature were investigated in graphite-Ni_(70)Mn_(25)Co_5 system,which is widely used as starting materials for saw-grade diamond synthesis in China. With the help of kinetics for nucleation and growth of diamond, the activation energy and surface energy for diamond growth were determined to be respectively 3.77eV and 0.005eV at a pressure of 52 GPa and a temperature of 1520K. By comparison, the results for the present system have the same order of magnitude as those for the other graphite-catalyst system reported in the other paper. Moreover,the mechanism of graphite to diamond transition was also reviewed in this paper.
