Influence of Nd_2O_3 on Porous Cordierite Prepared from Rice Husk

Porous cordierite ceramic was prepared at 1350 ℃ using the rice husk as silica source and pore forming agent,Nd2O3 as the additive. The mineral phase changes during sintering were analyzed by X-ray diffraction ( XRD) ,the microstructures of the sintered samples were observed by scanning electronic microscopy ( SEM) ,and the bending strength and porosity of the porous cordierite samples were tested. The results show that the porosity of the sample adding 3 wt% Nd2O3 presents unobvious changes,but the bending strength of the porous cordierite increases about 4 times ,and the forming temperature of cordierite greatly decreased significantly.
