Texture Feature Extraction of Machined Surface Based on Waveletpacket Transform and Singularity Value Decomposition

In order to extract the texture characteristic of a machined surface,a novel approach for extracting feature of gray image was proposed using waveletpacket transform and singularity value decomposition.The waveletpacket transform and the singularity value decomposition arithmetic were introduced.The characteristic parameters k1 and k2 were defined based on mean and variance of the singular value characteristic vector.The relations between the characteristic parameters and the surface texture were discussed.The results show that the characteristic parameters can reveal the texture characteristics of a machined surface.The parameter k1 reflects the bearing area of a machined surface,the larger characteristic parameter k1,the larger bearing area.The parameter k2 reflects the roughness of a machined surface,the larger characteristic parameter k2,the larger roughness.Therefore the characteristic parameters k1 and k2 could be considered as parameters to evaluate the texture of a machined surface.
