Discussion on design technology of irrigation canal in schistosomiasis area

Water taken from a reservoir’s deep water layer is not pestiferous, but water channels in snail fever areas are generally overgrown with weeds and make anaerobic microorganism active. The comprehensive conditions of these channels in terms of water, air and thermal regimes are favorable for the breeding of oncomelania snail which is the intermediate host of the blood fluke, safely taking water for irrigation is aimed to prevent the propagation of snail fever, and the basic project scheme requires earth channel to have hardened smooth sidewall and bottom and to be impervious. Smooth channels can efficiently prevent oncomelania snail from traveling between the outside and the inside of the channels. Impervious channels can efficiently lower the underground water level in the surrounding zones and control the breeding of oncomelania snail. This paper puts forward a concrete method for designing irrigation channels in snail fever areas and determines engineering materials and structural dimensions for case study.
