Design and realization of 3D visualization and analysis system of Three Gorges water way

The safe navigation on Yangtze river,especially on the Three Gorges waterway,is an important system engineering.Traditional 2D electronic river channel map is very effective to ensure safe navigation.However,it is not visual and many kinds of complex analysis are difficult in 2D environment and they can only be processed in 3D situation.So the realization of 3D waterway digitalization and intellectualization is very important and urgent to safe navigation.Aiming at this purpose,a whole framework for 3D visualization and analysis system of Three Gorges waterway based on 3D GIS is first introduced.Under this framework,the integrated service from waterway spatial data collecting,storing,management,processing,query analysis,to typical navigation application is illustrated.And some key techniques are discussed in detail,including the waterway data creation supported by multi-source data;organization and management of multi-source,multi-type,multi-scale spatial data,the 3D dynamic visualization techniques for huge data,the 2D3D mutually display and analysis techniques.Based on these theories and techniques,a system named TEAVIS for 3D digital waterway is developed.Some typical waterway application based on this system is also described.
