Study on field characteristics of multimode Rayleigh waves and energy distribution

By using high-order finite-difference forward modeling technique,we further study wave field characteristics and energy distribution of multimode Rayleigh waves aiming at three typical models in actual engineering investigation.The numerical simulations results show that for a normally dispersive profile,the fundamental mode wave has remarkable features that its energy dominating the whole wave field at every frequency,hence the inversion process can be analyzed only using data of the fundamental mode.However,for complicated profiles with low or high velocity layers,the higher mode is dominated at high or middle frequencies,whereas the fundamental mode is subordinate at these frequencies,right now the inversion analysis needs full utilization of multimode Rayleigh wave information to improve reliability and inversion precision for complicated geological structure.
