Using survey data of rural migrant workers in Shenzhen in 2005,this paper analyzes effects of social networks on rural migrant workers' attitudes and behaviors of the first marriage from gender perspective. The results show that number and character of marriage discussion network members and their average desired age at first marriage have positive effects on migrants' desired age at first marriage, and number of marriage discussion network members decreases hazard of early marriage among male migrants. Both individual and migration factors affect rural migrant workers' attitudes and behaviors of the first marriage.
