In the paper the catalytic properties of zeolites in the hydration reaction of cy-clohexene-water and cyclohexene-water-acetic acid were discussed. Several types of cata-lysts Hβ, HZSM-5 synthesized with, and without template compound were used. The mainby-products were identified by the method of GC-IR-The adsoptive capacity of the zeo-lites for the cyclohexene,water and acetic acid were determined by the BET method. It wasfound that the catalytic activity of the Hβ zeolite was obviously higher than HZSM-5in thetwo reaction systems, and the main by-products of hydration reaction of cyclohexene werecyclohexene-[1]一one-[3] and 4-methyl cyclopentene on the HZSM-5 zeolites, but 2-cy-clohexenyl cyclohexanone on the Hpzeolite. The high catalytic activity of Hβzeolite is causedby a larger size of aperture and adsorptive capacity for cyclohexene than HZSM-5. 2- cyclo-hexenyl cyclohexanone was not produced on the HZSM-5 since it has a smaller size of aper-ture than Hβ. When acetic acid was additived in the reaction system, the coinpatibility of thecvclohexene with water was enhanced and the selective adsorption of cyclohexene on zeoliteswas also increased.Therefore the formation of cyclohexyl carbonium ion was promoted.Onthe other hand,the additional reaction of the cyclohexene with acetic acid vvas easily carredout to give a large number of cyclohexyl acetate and its hydrolysis produced cyclohexanol.
