The Review and Prospect of Research on the Southwest Vortex in Recent 30 Years

The southwest vortex is the α-meso-scale weather system with the shallow structure,produced under the influences of the Tibetan Plateau orography.It is one of the main rainfall systems in China during summer and always gives rise to a large-scale severe weather process in the areas effected.The research progresses of southwest vortex since late 70's in 20th century is entirely reviewed in this paper.The research is classified into three aspects: synoptic and climatic meteorology,dynamics and numerical simulation,and the problems and major achievements of the research are briefly summarized.On the basis of above,it is tried to analyze the exiting problems,and to prospect the direction and trend of research on southwest vortex in the future.
