The Nature and Boundary of Time——On the Discrimination of the Concept of Time in the Mādhyamika of Nāgārjuna

Liu Zhaoxia;
Nāgārjuna's analysis of the time involves two core issues: the nature of time and the boundary of time. Nāgārjuna refutes the idea that time is an eternal and real point of view, and argues that time is the tool of the birth and death of the cognitive subject, being only a " false name " with no real entity. In Nāgārjuna' s view, the idea of whether time has or has not a boundary is a false one; only by truly understanding the complete falseness of such discussion can we reach the reality of the world, that is, the reality of time. The Nāgārjuna's discussion of time aims at relieving the world of its obsession with the concept of time, and ultimately pointing beyond the consciousness of speech.
