Antioxidative Activity of Different Fractions from Pummelo Peel Extract

Antioxidative activity of different elution fractions from pummelo peel extract was studied. Five fractions were obtained by gradiently eluting pummelo peel extract adsorbed on macroporous resin DM130. The antioxidative activity was then characterized by the method of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and ferric thiocyanate colorimetry (FTC). The results showed that five fractions have not only scavenging effect on DPPH free radical but also antiperoxidative activity on linoleic acid in the order of water fraction 20% ethanol fraction 40% ethanol fraction 60% ethanol fraction 80% ethanol fraction. In addition, all five elution fractions showed higher antioxidative activity than naringin but lower than butylated hydroxyl toluene. Different elution fractions from pummelo peel extract exhibit different antioxidative activity.
