RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GRAIN NUMBER PER PANICLE OF MAIN CROP AMONG VARIETIES AND THEIR RATOONING ABILITY IN HYBRID MID-RICE

From 1995 to 1996, the relationship between the number of grains per panicle among varieties of main crop and their ratooning ability in hybrid mid rice with 19 varieties of rice as materials was studied. The results are the followings: Highly significant negative correlations between the number of grains per panicle of main crop among varieties and their ratooning ability were observed; The mechanism is that there are highly significant positive correlations between the number of grains per panicle of main crop among varieties and their ratio grain to leaf. In other words, the fewer the grain number per panicle of main crop, the more green leaves area for per grain filling. So it is decline that the amount of photosynthetic matter is transported from stems to grains and there is still more photosynthetic matter remained in the basic stems at harvesting date of main crop for ratooning buds growing.
