The Impact of Prohibitive Policy on the Sex-selective Behavior during Pregnancy:The Interpretation Based on TPB

Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior(TPB),using the data from survey in three counties of Shaanxi Province,this study analyzed the impacts of the prohibitive policies on the sex-selective behavior during pregnancy.It was found that,individual's son preference attitudes and the son preference attitudes of other people who belong to the social ties network are the determinants of the sex-selective behavior during pregnancy;while the prohibition policies have a impact on the sex-selective behavior during pregnancy to some extent,but very limited.The conclusions drew from this study provide policy implications for the contemporary governance on higher sex ratio at birth in China,and it point out that the comprehensive counter measures including cracking down "two illegal behaviors",whole-course services,benefits orientation,advocacy have positive impacts on the governance of higher sex ratio at birth.
