The Fateful Engineering Geology Problems on the West Line of Water Transfer from the South to the North

HUANC Runqiu (Chengdu University of Technology, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, 610082)  
About fifteen main regional active fractures have been found at present in the area in where the west line of water transfer project to be constructed, thereinto five of them have got a stronger activity, which will have got a greater impact to the project. It must be noted that the topography incision in the area in where the west line project to be constructed is very acute and plentiful water system exists, many perennial rivers in different sizes are developing far and wide in the watershed zone among the five rivers over them the dams to be constructed and the water to be transferred, in addition the configuration of the complex watershed where the convey tunnels will pass through is complicated. In the course of construction, the branches over the convey tunnels will be likely to drain into the tunnels through fracture or fissured zone to result in the emergence of water, sand and projecting mud soil in tunnels. Besides the geologic hazard in tunnels such as large deformation and water emergence arising by any possibility, the rock blasting and high geothermy which will reduce the work efficiency of TBM to a great extent, for this reason the complexity of geological background and the different problem of fateful engineering geology that incurred possibly in the course of excavation should be paid a great attention to as selecting the tunneling method.
