From Deconstruction to Consensus:An Analysis of Evaluative Function of Metaphor

Evaluation is the core of the meaning of a text and evaluative devices spread at the different levels of a text.This paper is an attempt to discuss the evaluative meaning of metaphors at the two levels of grammar and lexis and to point out that metaphor can work as the criteria of evaluation for both writer/speaker and reader/listener.With metaphor as evaluative criteria,we can build the consensus reality beyond deconstruction of the meaning.An analysis of evaluative function of metaphor affords a new perspective for the whole evaluation on a text.
