Effects of feeding two kinds of fooeed on the water quality in largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) aquarium

A 28-day trial was conducted to study the effects of feeding iced trash fish and formulated feed food on the water quality in largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) aquarium. The COD, PO4--P, TP, TN, NH3-N, NO3--N and NO2--N were determined respectively. The results showed that all the index were increasing with feeding the two kinds of feedfood, but feeding the trash fish was much higher than feeding the formulated feedfood. The COD, PO4--P, TP, TN, NH3-N, NO3--N and NO2--N of feeding trash fish were 25.3mg/L, 2.4mg/L, 2.28mg/L, 3.44mg/L, 2.91mg/L, 0.52mg/L and 0.075mg/L, and feeding the formulated foodfeed were 10.2mg/L, 0.58mg/L, 0.855mg/L, 2.17mg/L, 0.29mg/L, 0.048mg/L and 0.03mg/L, respectively. Especially, for the content of TP and PO4--P, the former were 4.2 and 2.7 times higher than the latter. These indicated that feeding formulated feed food could decrease the pollution of the cultured water, especially decreasing the discharge of the TP and PO4 --P could decrease was significant significantly. The conclusion of the study would give some guides to the study of management of water eutrophication in aquaculture.
