PHASE DIAGRAMS FOR CATIONIC SURFACTANT SYSTEM AND MICROEMULSION STRUCTURES DETERMINED BY CONDUCTIVITY

The effect of alcohols (n-butanol, n-hexanol, n-octanol and n-decanol)and hydrocarbon (n-octane)on phase behaviour for the system of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB)/alcohols/n-octane/water was studled and the structures of microemuision were determined at 40C with conductivity. At the same time, the effect of salt kinds (NaCl.CaCl2 and AlCl3 )and NaCI concentrations on lyotropic liquid crystalline for the system of CTAB /n- butanol / water was also studied. The results show that microemulsion regions all decrease as the increase of the length of alcohols at the constant content of n-octane,and as the increase of hydrocarbon content at constant cosurfactant. Lyotropic liquid crystalline regions increases as the increase of salt concentrations and cationic ionic valence.
