Characteristics of Heavy Metal Pollution in the Licun River Estuary,Jiaozhou Bay,Qingdao

ZHANG Li jie 1, WANG Gui 2, YAO De 3, DUAN Guo zheng 2 (1.Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology, Geological Survey of China, Qingdao 266071,China; 2.College of Geoexploration Science and Technology, Jilin University, Changchun 130026,China; 3.College of Resource and Environment Engineering, Shandong University of Technology, Zibo 255049, China)
Heavy metal pollution in the sediments of Licun river estuary has been discussed with two cores collected from the estuary. Comparisons show that there is only a light contamination of heavy metals in the research area, but the trend of increase in heavy metal concentrations reveals that the pollution has been aggravating since the early 1980's. More attention should be paid to preventing further pollution. Furthermore, the sedimentary rate in the estuary area has been determined by the use of 210 Pb geochronometry. The history of industry development of Qingdao has also been studied according to the sedimentation rate measured.
