Direct calculation method for the critical depth of an open trapezoidal channel

ZHAO Yan-feng,WANG Zheng-zhong,ZHANG Kuan-di (College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering,Northwest A&F University,Yangling 712100,China)  
By introducing a non-dimensional parameter-unit surface width,an iterative formula on critical water depth of open trapezoidal channels is proposed according to mathematical transformation.Combined with the right initial value,the direct calculation formula of critical water depth of trapezoidal section is obtained. The greatest relative error is less than 0.082% within all the sections of trapezoidal channel.Examples of error analysis and calculation show that its direct formula format is short-cut,effective and correct.
