Direct settling velocity detection of sediment using PIV

In this paper, an experiment on direct measuring the settling velocity of sediment in the reservoir at Changjiang Estuary is introduced. In the experiment, Particle Image Velocimetery (PIV), an advanced laser equipment, is applied to detect the accurate value of settling velocity of sediment. And then, the effect brought by concentration and flocculation of sediment in experiment is analysed respectively.Through the experiment, we find that PIV is an effective and feasible equipment applied on direct settling velocity detection of sediment.
