3-D numerical simulation of green water occurrence on oscillating ship

A numerical method to simulate the phenomenon of the green water on deck is established by taking advantage of the virtues of the potential flow method and CFD technique.Numerical programs developed based on the platform of the commercial software Fluent were used to numerically model the green water occurrence on the floating structures exposed to waves.A technique of dynamic mesh is specially introduced in a 3-D numerical wave tank to simulate the green water occurrence on an oscillating FPSO model in head waves.Numerical results of water flow on deck and green water loads on deck structure agree wellwith the corresponding experimental data.It is shown that the present method can be applied to predict and analyze the impact forces on floating structures due to green water.
