Green water flow and its impact on the deck of a high speed vessel

Taking the advantages of CFD technique and potential flow theory,green water flow and its impact on the deck for a vessel advancing in waves with high speed have been investigated by 3-D numerical simulation method,which integrally considers the effects of bow flare,water swell-up,wave and body motions.A Foredeck Simulation Model (FDSM) based on the simulation of whole ship motions is established for simulating the green water flow behavior and its impact loads on the deck structures.The simulation is realized by extending the function of the commercial software Fluent,in which the vessel motion is calculated using potential theory.The green water flow behavior and impact load on deck are calculated and analyzed for the case of S175 ship advancing in head waves (Fn=0.3).Numerical results agree well with the corresponding experimental ones.It indicates the present method can be applied to predict and analyze the impact forces on floating structures due to green water.It also can be regarded as a good engineering approach to evaluate the green water effects.
