Statistical Analysis of Element Strain Energy for Overloading Failure of High Arch Dam

The failure process of a high arch dam was calculated by using finite element method.And then it did statistical analysis of element strain energy.It finds that the element strain energy increases rapidly at the beginning of overloading and elements with a larger increasing rate predominate.With overload growing,the element strain energy increases slowly.When it reaches the ultimate loads,elements with a smaller increasing rate predominate.The strain energy statistical results concentrate in the first and then disperse.The more concentrating,the larger bearing capacity the dam still has.The element strain energy increasing rate disperses at the beginning of overloading and then concentrates.The more dispersing,the larger bearing capacity the dam still has.
