Objective To study the biological activities of globin hydrolysate. Methods The determination of angiotensin I-converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitory activity was performed by a reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography(RP-HPLC) with a modification method of Cushman. The hemagglutinative activity was measured with the method of Guzman-Partida.The induced resistance of plant was studied referring to soybean cotyledons assay reported by Ayers and the method of control of tobacco mosaic virus(TMV) reported by Fang Zhongda. Results The globin hydrolysate which fully contained small molecule peptide showed the highest ACE inhibitory activity and some hemagglutinative activity with the degree of hydrolysis of 12.6%.It also showed the same induced resistance activity at the concentration of 500mg/L as oligosaccharide at the concentration of 50mg/ L.Conclusion The globin hydrolysate has well biological activities,so porcine hemoglobin richly containing globin hydrolysate can be used in drug therapy, physiologically functional foods and green pesticides.
