The Application of Near Infrared Spectroscopy to Identification and Analysis of Herbal Medicine

Identification of herbal medicine is important in the quality control of herbal medicine. Many modern analytical instrumental methods have been used in identification and quality control of herbal medicine in recent years. Near infrared spectroscopy(NIRS) technique has become a new method of qualitative and quantitative analysis of traditional Chinese medicine as a simple, fast, and non destructive method. The principle and features of near infrared spectroscopy technique were described in the present paper. Also, some recent qualitative and quantitative applications of near infrared spectroscopy in traditional Chinese herbal medicine were reviewed.
