Complications after styloid process surgery

Objective: To investigate the measurement for styloid process surgery complication.Method: Of the 146 patients,54 were performed oropharynx surgical approach and 92 external cervical surgical approach to shorten the elongated styloid process.Results: In 54 patients with oropharynx surgical approach,the success rate was 92.6%,the incidence rate of complication was 7.4% and the response rate was 83.3%;in 92 patients with external cervical surgical approach,the success rate was 98.9%(P0.05),the incidence rate of complication was(7.6%)(P0.05) and the response rate was 94.6%(P0.05).Conclusion: Different approaches of styloid process surgery have their own merits and shortcomings,but the external cervical surgical approach is superior to the oropharynx surgical approach in effect.
