An Empirical Study on the Relation between Enterprise Size and R&D Input and Output:Case Study of Private High-tech Enterprises in Shandong Province

YANG Hui-xin QUAN Zong-shuai(School of Management,Shandong University,Jinan 250100,P.R.China)
Using data obtained from a questionnaire on private high-tech enterprises in Shandong province,we test the relationship between enterprise size and RD input and output with different regression models.A U-shaped curve is found for RD input on enterprise size whereas no correlation is found between RD output and enterprise size.Such findings are not consistent with the Schumpeterian Hypotheses, which implies that big private high-tech enterprises in Shandong province do not possess obvious advantages over small private high-tech enterprises in RD input and output.
